Photo Story: Highland Bowl

Image
Highland Bowl, located at 2123 NW 9th St, Corvallis, was first opened on May 29, 1959. The current owner is Scott Yarrow, who has been with Highland for several years. Highland has been a staple of Corvallis, with some regulars bowling at Highland for as long as it has been in business. Highland Bowl has 20 lanes for bowling, a kitchen, bar and lounge, and a small arcade. It also hosts bowling leagues six out of the seven days of the week, some days holding multiple leagues per day. While its main crowd consists of the league bowlers who come in at the same times every week, Highland also is frequented by several families and college students looking for a fun time. A packed parking lot is a common sight on a league night. A lone pair of Highland's bowling shoes sit on the counter, with the Tu...

Lynsey Addario Book Report

Image
Lynsey Addario’s “It’s What I Do” is a very compelling and gripping life story. It details the struggles of not only photojournalism, but of a woman in the industry and as a woman in the world.      One of the lines in Lynsey Addario’s book that stands out the most to me is when she's told to move seats on her flight to Turkey. The book states “... a male Afghan flight attendant came over and stirred me from my solitude: “‘Madam. You Cannot sit here. This is an exit row.’ ‘So?’ ‘Women cannot sit by the exit door. If there is a flight emergency, a woman wouldn’t be capable of opening the exit door.’ I got up, and as I moved to my new seat I watched the attendant usher over a frail old man with a white beard, hunched with osteoporosis, to sit by the exit door.” This quote stood out to me because it is a moment where Lynsey is really down and exhausted due to the battle she just went through on the front lines, watching soldiers she knew personally die. Week 6: Campus Photos

Image
Wooden bench, covered in moss and plants, outside on the LBCC Albany Campus on a rainy Thursday afternoon.  Students sit in the Courtyard Cafe enjoying a conversation at 1pm, Friday the 16th, February, 2024. The cafe serves students from 8am to 2pm on Fridays, and 8am to 3pm other week days. The cafe is usually quite busy, especially during lunch hours, but during this time students get to enjoy the calm atmosphere.  Two LBCC staff walk down the empty walkway in the LBCC Albany campus courtyard on February 17th, 2024. The wet, cold winter weather keeps most students away from the courtyard, causing it to be empty even during class times. After 2pm, the Albany campus loses a lot of activity with students finishing up classes and leaving.
